Today

James and Mary McPherson set the type for the first issues of The New Zealand Times by hand. For a quick, entertaining history of type have a look here.

In the first issue of the newspaper they wrote, “Our every endeavor will be directed to the public good. We will not fall under the influence of any particular section of the community.” The links to New Zealand’s history that we have been looking at in this blog: Te Ara, NZ History on line, NZ on Screen and Papers Past are just like that. They are for the public good and they are owned by all of us.

So that's The New Zealand Times on line. You can make your own newspaper or blog, it's easy, I used Blogger to make this site. Wordpress is another platform you can use.

And if you want to find out more about our history there are books, their batteries never go flat. Michael King's wonderful History of New Zealand is a good place to start.

 See you later!
